The LED light source has high luminous efficiency, and most of the power consumption of incandescent lamps and tungsten halogen lamps becomes heat loss. When used for the same lighting effect, the power consumption is one ten thousandth of that of an incandescent lamp and one-half of that of a fluorescent tube. The average life span LED lamps is 100,000 hours, which can reach 5-10 years. This can greatly reduce the maintenance cost of lamps and avoid frequent lamp replacement. This savings is especially noticeable with high-intensity lights, like parking lot and street lights and led high bay.

the application of led high bays

But, how do you choose the right LED high bay light for application?

1. What to Look for When Buying

Lumens per Watt (l/W or LPW)

The higher this value, the more energy-efficient the lights are. Many consumers pay attention to wattage when purchasing LED light sources. In fact, we should pay attention to luminous flux. The unit of luminous flux is lumens (lm), which represents how much light the light source outputs, and represents the effect of a light source. Generally speaking, the luminous efficiency of 1 watt of LED light source is about 80 lumens. The higher the value, the better, which means that the chip used by the light source is better.

Quality Indicators

The main parameters of LED lamps, especially high-power LED lamp beads, are luminous efficiency, color rendering index, color temperature and so on. Luminous efficiency represents the energy-saving effect of LED lights, and must be greater than 80 LM/W to meet the requirements; the higher the color rendering index, the better the color rendering of the light source. Generally, 0.8 is enough. For painting work, there are higher requirements for color rendering index; color temperature will directly affect the lighting effect and human health, especially as a reading lamp or bedroom night light, it is best to use 2700K low color temperature LED light. If there is glare, it will have potential adverse effects on children in the home. In order to reduce glare, it is simply the same brightness. The larger the light-emitting area, the better.

2. Differences Between High Bay Models

Round LED High Bays

These newer round LED high bays, often called “UFO” style lights, don’t need reflectors because LED lighting is intrinsically more directional than metal halide or other light sources. This allows for a more compact, low-profile design of the fixture.

These lights are heavy duty and IP65-rated, allowing them to be used in even harsh conditions. such as industrial laundries, grain processing plants, car washes, and barns.

At the same time, they’re very striking in appearance, so they’re a great consideration for any high-ceiling application. from aircraft hangars to the café area of a large grocery store.

Panel-Style High Bays

Not to be confused with LED light panels, these troffer-like LED high bays are similar in appearance to T5 and T8 fixtures. Compared to round high bays, they distribute light over a larger area. If you have T5 or T8 lights already, these types of high bays are their ideal (and sleek!) replacement.

If you’re using linear fluorescent fixtures already and you want to keep those fixtures. we have extra bright 4ft and extra bright 8ft LED tubes that provide excellent lighting at install heights over 15 feet. Or you can retrofit your fluorescent fixtures with magnetic LED strips.
